Dolomites by Bike

The imposing peaks of the Dolomites are the backdrop to the gentle slopes covered with vineyards, where peasant life blends with modernity, alpine traditions and Mediterranean characteristics.
And this is also the case for bikes, MTB routes, climbs for racing bikes, trails for e – bikes, trails. Here you can find all of these, experiencing in complete freedom in the immense open spaces of South Tyrol.

Val Gardena

The Hotel Montchalet and Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti in Ortisei are the ideal starting points for bicycle tours, they are just a few minutes from one of the main cycle and pedestrian paths in Val Gardena.

Suitable for beginners or simply for those who love tranquilitỳ, the tour of the villages of Val Gardena (Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva Gardena) is the best solution to occupy the morning or a few hours in the afternoon.
Mainly flat, with few climbs of medium difficulty. In some places you have to cross the state road, but the entire route up to Selva is well separated and free of cars.

An alternative return, for those who are more fit, is to continue along the left bank of the Rio Gardena, passing through the woods. In Soplajes, you go back on the road leading to Ortisei, immersed in the woods and meadows, riding parallel to the state road.
It is possible to go up to the start of the “Alpe di Siusi” cable car and cross the raised bridge that connects with the pedestrian area of Ortisei.

Alta Badia

These mountains have made history and shaped cycling legends, pushing those who love cycling seriously beyond their limits. Does this tour tell you anything?
Corvara – Campolongo Pass – Arabba – Pieve di Livinallongo – Andraz – Falzarego Pass – Valparola Pass – San Cassiano – La Villa -Funtanacia – Verda – Corvara.
If you have never managed to do it, the Maratona Dles Dolomites route is waiting for you, perhaps in the mildest season and with suitable preparation…

In Corvara, whether you are “real” cyclists or amateurs, you can base yourself at the hotel La Perla. For those who like to try their hand at cycling even in winter, taking a fat bike , they can go along the path in the woods to the Villa or even further.

On the snow

If you want to take advantage of fat bikes and experience the thrill of cycling and driving in the snow, you can find what you are looking for on Lake Braies.
Departing from Dobbiaco you take the Val Pusteria cycle path and from Villabassa you move onto a minor road to reach some pleasant rural locations, starting to enter the valley that leads to Lake Braies. You can go on a fat bike on the frozen lake and go down a path in the woods.

Do you know the Val di Funes? No? Yet who knows how many times you have seen the images of the church of Santa Maddalena which often appears in South Tyrolean advertisements.
Val di Funes is an enchanted place, welcoming in all seasons, but in winter it takes on a greater charm. Go up one of the numerous forest roads between green pine forests covered with snow to reach the edge of the wood.

Above the heads the Odle, with the highest peak “La Furcheta” of over 3,000 meters.

The via Claudia Augusta

This route largely follows the Adige river and by pedaling you can admire the landscapes that from the Val Venosta in South Tyrol reach as far as Trentino, ranging between mountains, lakes, woods, meadows, vineyards, wide valleys and orchards.
The cuisine that characterizes these territories is characterized by local products ranging from apple to wine, with typical dishes such as canederli or polenta.

Starting from the Resia pass, an alpine pass located not far from the Austrian border, near Switzerland, you reach Curon (Bolzano) and then along the splendid Val Venosta up to Merano and Bolzano and then, through the Val d’Adige, up to Trento covering a total of 208 kilometers.

The Pusterbike

This cycle path leads through the Val Pusteria, from San Candido to Brunico, and from here to Bressanone in the Val d’Isarco. From San Candido the cycle path, 35 km long, leads you to Lake Valdaora and past the Rienza Gorge in Brunico.

The historic center of Brunico is worth a visit and then continuing along the Rienza, pass the Castle of Casteldarne up to Vandoies. The Rio Pusteria lock is a fortress that once served as a fortification.
Continue to Sciaves, Fortezza arriving finally to the fascinating episcopal city of Bressanone.
